NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has rejected Serbia’s request for the return of Serbian security forces to the territory of Kosovo.

The news was announced by the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, writes Euronews Serbia.

“It seems to me that we all knew and expected that answer. They have answered, of course, that they believe there is no need for the return of the Serbian Army and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Serbia, referring to Resolution 1244. They said that in accordance with the resolution, they play their role, but did not refer to the part where it can be rejected, because there is no such thing. They knew that they had nothing to refer to, then they referred to the specific legal framework”, stressed Vučič.

The Serbian army, on the night between December 15 and 16 last year, sent an e-mail to the KFOR office, with a request to send up to 1000 members of the Serbian army and police to Kosovo.

Serbia had requested the return of military forces to Kosovo, after the arrest of former policeman Dejan Pantic, under the pretext of protecting members of the Serbian community.
