The former head of SHISH, Fatos Klosi, declared that there is a rush from the prosecution body to put high officials involved in corruption behind bars.
In addition, according to him, this happens because Albania is a small country and everyone knows each other, making it possible to influence the manipulation of evidence.
By sending them to prison, the Prosecution removes the contacts of persons to influence the investigation, Klosi said.
Moreover, he added that it has become common for these kinds of people to be taken to prison in a hurry and then released just as fast.
“There is another issue and it’s the fact that we are a small country, where we all know each other and it is very difficult for an investigation to remain secret or run smoothly. In this way, the prosecutors are in a hurry to bring them in so they cut their contacts in the hopes of preventing them from mismanaging the evidence. This may be one of the reasons. But I agree with the principle that you shouldn’t keep someone inside if you have no evidence to incriminate them. The situation is very tense. Everyone is putting pressure, politics is from both sides, the international community is also putting pressure on a daily basis. The public opinion insistently demands to know what is going on and the media reflects this demand as well. But by now, we’re used to people that are brought in quickly and then come out just as fast. The court is the one that gives the final verdict, so we’ll see,” – said Klosi.
