The first Serbian mercenaries in the Zaporizhzhia region have begun military training as part of the Sudoplatov Volunteer Battalion.
The news was made public through a battalion statement this Tuesday.
“Serbian volunteers, together with fighters from Russia, participate in all combat exercises at one of the training grounds of the Zaporizhzhia region for further participation in a special military operation,” the battalion’s statement said.
In a statement to the Russian press, one of the Serbian mercenaries said that he joined the Russian army because of the injustices done to Serbia by NATO in relation to Kosovo.
“We came to support our Russian brothers, as we well remember the events that happened in Yugoslavia in the 90s. We recall NATO’s injustice towards Serbia and the situation in Kosovo. Therefore, we have come to support the Russian people in their struggle”, said one of the Serbian volunteers with the nickname “Danub” to the Russian media RIA Novosti.
