The former Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani, says that Prime Minister Edi Rama will be called to testify in the US, regarding the scandal involving the former FBI official, Charles McGonigal.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Manjani said that Rama will testify, as he is suspected of a corruption affair. According to him, Rama has left an extraordinary mark on the country.

“Anyone who understands a little bit of justice doesn’t need to be an expert on American justice. Investigations are called closed when the court makes a decision. In American courts, there is never a closure of investigations, I would even give some personal advice to Edi Rama. He must use his constitutional freedom not to speak or express himself because he would be making a mistake. Every word he says could be used against him. Every word he says could corrupt him even more. I advise him as a former friend that I had, to shut up. The more he speaks, the worse it will be.

That’s all he has to do, because it’s not his personal fate here, it’s the fate of Albania. He has a representative mandate, he represents us all. It has left a tremendous mark on us. Everyone suspected that Albanians are corrupt, now we have the prime minister of Albania in a corruption case, a suspect. At least he will go there, he will appear as a witness, definitely, his testimony will be required in one way or another”, he emphasized.

McGonigal is accused of receiving $225,000 dollars from a former employee of Albania’s secret services and holding a series of meetings with businessmen and politicians in Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia, but without reporting them according to the rules.
