The former MP of the Democratic Party, Azgan Haklaj, stated during an interview from Euronews Albania’s newsroom that Sali Berisha is trying to use the McGonigal scandal for his own benefits and political interests.

Haklaj however, also said that Berisha is personally involved in this scandal. To support his claim, he said that the Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, met with Agron Neza on January 8 of this year, right downstairs from where Berisha lives.

In addition, he claimed that he invited both Noka and Berisha to speak publicly about what was discussed in that meeting.

“Berisha says I don’t know either McGonigal or Agro Neza, now I ask Mr. Berisha and the Minister of the Interior who blew the whistle in Parliament, the Secretary-General, Flamur Noka, did he meet Mr. Neza on January 8 right below Berisha’s apartment building? On January 8 of this year. Berisha doesn’t feel good about himself and delegates responsibility to others, saying he doesn’t know him. The problem is not whether they met, the problem is what they talked about?! I have Agron Neza as a friend, if I had wanted to I would have met McGonigall. Let them tell us what they discussed, Berisha tried to use this scandal for his own political benefits”, said Haklaj.
