3 years after the set deadline, the population and housing census has a date. CENSI will start on September 18 this year, and 8,000 trained individuals will knock on doors to question all residents of the Republic of Albania.
INSTAT announces that the infrastructure is already ready, after 3 suspensions that came from the pandemic and the failure of electronic tenders.
For the first time, population data will not be stored on paper, but on tablets, as the European Union requires.
The entire process, which in the question phase will last 6 weeks, is expected to cost 16 million euros. Preliminary results will be announced by INSTAT in June 2024, i.e. 8 months after the collection of information.
All survey questions are mandatory, with the exception of ethnic identification, religion and language.
Each individual is free to answer or not for these three elements.
The first official population and housing census was conducted in 1923, and today, when 100 years have passed, this will be the twelfth CENSUS. It is of great importance for public investment planning, budget allocations and public services.
