The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha responded to Prime Minister Rama’s statements that no parliamentary commission of inquiry will be set up regarding the McGonigal case. 

Berisha emphasized during the press conference this Friday, that Edi Rama has no chance of obstructing the constitutional right to set up these commissions.

The former prime minister added that if Rama really believes this, he is provoking complete destabilization in the country.

“He declared last night, as you heard, that he will not allow this and that there is no chance of allowing a parliamentary commission for the Watergate of the 21st century, for an affair that has shaken politics and life to the core in the USA, but also in Albania and all other countries. But, Edi Rama has no chance of obstructing the constitutional right of the Albanian parliament to create commissions. If he truly believes this, he will provoke complete destabilization in the country. I tell Albanian citizens that never in history, neither during the dictatorship, nor after the dictatorship, has it happened that the parliament’s bureau annuls the country’s laws. No, not even Enver Hoxha’s political bureau canceled the laws. The annulment of any law only takes place through a legal and parliamentary procedure” said Berisha.
