Sociologist Gezim Tushi stated that Albania is among the countries with the highest rates of population aging in Europe.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Tushi said that the problem is biological, but also social.

According to him, if this continues, we will be forced to take the new generation from abroad.

“The rates of aging of the Albanian population are extremely high, let me emphasize that. We are still not the oldest country in Europe, we have an average age of 37-38 years. It is France and Germany, over 42 years old, but we are among the countries that have the highest rates of population aging in Europe. It is us, it is the Baltic republics, Portugal, that have very high rates. We are aging rapidly, it means that the number of births is falling, the life expectancy of the elderly continues to increase and we will have these problems. The problem is biological and social. There are dire prognoses, the fact is that we are shriveled, past reproductive age. If we continue like this, we will be forced to import the new generation from abroad”, he emphasized.
