The former deputy minister of education, Nora Malaj, said that with the latest decision, the Ministry of Education admitted that we are in a situation where there are no more teachers in our country.

Invited to speak on Euronews Albania, Malaj underlined that 60% of teachers today do not have the relevant education.

She also emphasized, among other things, that in 2030 Albania risks being left without qualified teachers.

“In 2030, Albania risks being left without qualified teachers, which means that the new programs themselves are in an alarming state. The Ministry of Education, with the guidance it has given, has admitted that we have a terrible handicap. Focusing on the documents, since 2009, for all those who have finished higher studies, it was decided that the 4-year higher studies would be called Master of Science or integrated studies. All of those who fall in this category have the right to teach.

In 2012 we decided to give a higher standard to teaching staff. Case after case, in the education system we have had teachers who did not study and graduate to become teachers. Then it was thought that the education part can be added with dedicated teachers starting from basic education to getting the license. Now we are at a stage where we have a big handicap. Now we see that we have no more teachers. We see that 60% of educators and other teachers are without a relevant education. The ministry has accepted that we are in a situation where we don’t have enough teachers,” she said.
