The Chief State Commissioner of Elections, Ilirjan Celibashi, stated that based on the documentation presented to him, Lulzim Basha has the right to register the Democratic Party in the May 14 elections.

Celibashi, after listening to the representatives of the two groups in PD, said that Basha’s request is not complete, so he gave 48 hours to make the necessary additions.

“I think that Mr. Lulzim Basha has the right to request the registration of the Democratic Party as an electoral subject for the elections of May 14, 2023, based on the official documents. He appears as the chairman of the DP in terms of the law. We come to the next discussion about the legitimacy of this request. From the assessment we made of this documentation, according to the law, the request should have been submitted by the chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Lulzim Basha. In the assessment we have made of Mr. Basha’s authorizing document for Mr. Sefa, I assess that this documentation is not complete with the provisions of the Electoral Code. I believe it is clear that the authorizing documentation must be in accordance with the provisions of Article 64 of the Electoral Code. In my opinion, the authorizing act should be clear. I will give you 48 hours to make the required additions, necessarily for the statement of the chairman of the political party”, he emphasized.
