Svetlana Timofoeva, the Russian arrested in our country, has requested political asylum in Albania.

The 33-year-old woman is being held in prison for the attack on the soldiers at the Gramshi plant on the suspicion that she would receive secret information.

She has requested political asylum, arguing that if the extradition process is carried out, her life in Russia will be endangered.

Incident:

The 2 Russians, Svetlatana Timofoeva, Mikhail Zorin and the Ukrainian Fyodor Mihailovic, were arrested on August 20, when the incident occurred at the plant.

At the time when authorities stopped them, the 3 citizens were photographing the premises of the old factory while trying to enter it, they were spotted by Albanian soldiers who asked them to stop. Mikhail Zorin attacked the soldier by spraying him with a suspected chemical spray.

The 3 people were arrested and meanwhile the car they were driving was seized. They are now officially being charged with “Sharing secret and sensitive information” and “Providing information”.

The court imposed the security measure of “prison arrest” against them.
