European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi said that in Albania the institutions aimed at fighting corruption have been improved and that the new president of SPAK shows the good will of politics to change things.
However, in the joint conference with Josep Borell and Prime Minister Rama and the high representative of the European Union, Josep Borell said that they must now see concrete actions from SPAK, they must see issues brought to justice.
“We have seen efforts to strengthen the fight against corruption, we have seen an improved institutional framework. I am happy to see the head of SPAK at this table. This should bring a strong balance of investigations, prosecutions, in cases of high-level corruption, recovery of assets, seizures, recovery of assets resulting from acts related to corruption. We need to see cases brought to justice now. The new head of SPAK is the result of genuine political will to change things, but without putting pressure on the newly elected new head, this institution will have as much value as its achievements, we have great hopes for this institution. We hope it will be as successful as the evaluation process was”, said European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.
