The incumbent president of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, will face the pro-European economist Jakov Miltaovic in the second round of the presidential elections, after the first round of voting held on Sunday.

Djukanovic, who according to the survey of the NGO “CeMI”, responsible for the supervision of the elections, enjoys 35 percent of the votes against 29 percent of Milatovic. The second round of elections will be held on April 2.

“There is a marked advantage compared to the other candidate, with whom I will face in the second round, but this is not only a reason for satisfaction and optimism; it is also a pure recognition of reserved voters who were not activated before”, Djukanovic emphasized.

“This is a joint victory with those who were discriminated in the last 30 years, whose children left Montenegro because they had no justice and were poor. This is a victory for a better, more beautiful and fairer Montenegro”, said Jakov Milatovic. These elections are being held after months of political deadlock in the Adriatic country. Two governments have been ousted by no-confidence motions since the 2020 legislative elections, the last of which last August.
