Amelia and Noel are the two most popular names in Albania in recent years.

In the analysis of the names that the Institute of Statistics has led, there is a clear predominance of short names, mainly foreign ones.

Girls born in 2022 in most cases were baptized with the name Amelia, exactly 499 girls were registered with this name.

Most of them are in Tirana, Durrës and Vlora.

As for boys, the first name on the list most used by Albanians is Noel.

In years past, parents chose to combine their names to arrive at a final name.

In the 1970s and 1980s, the most commonly used names were Lindita and Arben.

Many names used in the years of communism, such as Mbarime, Eros, Sose, Durak and others, are banned today. 

In civil status there is a list of 60 names, which are no longer allowed to be used as they are considered discriminatory.
