The HPV vaccine that protects women and girls from cervical cancer continues to be applied in all the hospitals in Albania. Pediatricians indicate that another growing demand still has disbelieving parents.

“The interest is growing, at first they didn’t believe, there were no rejections, but they postponed it for later, those parents are waiting to see what happens and will do it late”, said pediatrician Valbona Shahinaj.

The vaccine is being applied to girls who have turned 13 years old.

“It is a very good preventive for this problem, from that illness which is cervical cancer”, said pediatrician Valbona Shahinaj .

But does it cause side effects using this vaccine, from the moment that is applied?

“There are no side effects, it can only give a little pain for a day or two, they aren’t problematic pains, there is no fever”, said pediatrician Valbona Shahinaj.

4,500 girls have been vaccinated against the human papilloma virus throughout the country. The public health institution aims to apply the vaccine to girls aged 16-20 in 2024.
