During his speech at the United Nations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that institutions in Pristina cannot represent the interests of Serbs living in Kosovo, just as Kiev cannot represent Russians in Donbas and Crimea.

Lavrov brought to attention the issue of the association, just as the Russian ambassador in Belgrade had stated that they would turn it into an issue in the Security Council.

“To the Serbs of Kosovo was promised autonomy from the European Union, just as Berlin and Paris promised a special status for Donbass, the results of these promises are known,” declared Lavrov.

The Albania’s ambassador, Ferit Hoxha was present in the Security Council, where he reacted immediately. He said that Russia cannot mention Kosovo, a state recognized by more than half of the members of the United Nations, just to justify their actions.

International justice has confirmed that Kosovo’s independence is in accordance with international law and this issue is closed.

“Russia continues to refer to the Republic of Kosovo, a country recognized by more than half of UN member states, to justify its illegal actions in Georgia in 2008, in Ukraine since 2014, that still goes on. The International Court of Justice has ruled that Kosovo’s independence is in accordance with international law, the same court has demanded Russia to stop its war, so there is nothing that sounds more hollow than the desperate attempt to justify the unjustifiable, and her attempt to hide behind the unacceptable”, declared Hoxha.

On the other hand, the ambassador of the United States to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, in the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Kosovo called for the “quick implementation” of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.

“Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said that the United States will remain actively engaged in supporting Kosovo and Serbia in the implementation of their commitments towards a stable and peaceful relationship,” the media release states.
