Deputies and ministers in the parliament are not affected by the strong salary increase in the public administration. For this reason, they have demanded that for their salaries to be reviewed in the plan drawn up by the government.

A member of the Albanian parliament is paid 115 thousand lek per month in his account. So, his gross salary is 156 thousand ALL. According to the law, he also receives royalties in parliamentary commissions, for diems for trips abroad and reimbursement of fuel and telephone. All this adds an average of 110,000 lek to his portfolio every month. The salaries of political representatives were decided 10 years ago, and the government’s commitment to increase salaries in the administration does not affect any of them, MPs, group leaders or ministers.

“Since 2013, the salaries of ministers have not been increased, the salaries of deputies have not been increased and they will not be increased. Not even the prime minister’s salary while I’m here.”

This statement was said by Rama in October 2022, but 5 months later when there is a decision for a strong salary increase, the deputies request a review of their payments. Such a request was made in the assembly offices, with the non-voting of the salary bill in the state administration.

“As long as we aren’t able to raise the salary of others until the point where we deserve to have our salary raised, we do not have to raise them,” he declared earlier.

Today, a deputy’s salary is almost half of the president’s salary. The salary of the President of the Republic is proposed to increase from 257,000 to 425,000 ALL per month or 2.7 times higher than the salary of the deputy.
