Reforms and laws that bind Albania to the European Union have also affected fuels. Such is the project for the replacement of some oil byproducts, with non-fossil fuels for internal combustion engines.
The draft law is in the consultation phase and the main goal is to fulfill commitments for gas emissions originating from the consumption of hydrocarbons in this sector.
“Transport is the biggest contributor of carbon dioxide for Albania. In the size of the country, it affects climate change. The purpose of the law is to create incentive policies for the cultivation of energy plants in Albania, to protect the environment through compliance with sustainability criteria for the production of biofuels, bioliquids and biogases,” the report states.
On the other hand, the purpose of the draft law is to make consumers aware of the benefits that the consumption of biofuels in the transport sector, brings to the environment and to their health.
Biofuels are fuels that are extracted from biomass or organic plant or animal waste. Today, they’re regarded as the best way to reduce emissions that cause the greenhouse effect.
