The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Covid-19 no longer represents a “global health emergency”.
This is a big step that comes 3 years after the WHO first declared the alert about the virus.
Officials said the COVID-19 death rate had fallen from more than 100,000 people a week in January 2021 to just over 3,500 on April 24.
The head of the WHO said that at least seven million people died in the pandemic.
But Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the true figure was nearly three times the official estimate – and he warned the virus remained a significant threat.
