Cardiac and psychiatric problems on the rise, with the greatest number of hospitalizations

More than 8 million medical visits were performed by family doctors throughout 2022 in Albania. An official report of the Ministry of Health shows that the number of visits in the previous year is 3.5% higher compared to 2021.

Most of the patients were treated at home, but some needed specialized treatment. As a result, a total of 277,881 patients were hospitalized during an 8-month period in 2022. This figure is 7.7% higher compared to the same period of 2021.

In 2022, there was a higher number of patients hospitalized for cardiac or psychiatric related health issues.

Cardiology admissions increased by circa 21% compared to 2021, meanwhile the number of patients treated in psychiatric hospitals increased by 17.5%.

In the last 8 years, a period spanning from 2014 to 2022, the highest flow of hospitalizations was recorded in 2019, while the lowest hospitalization rate was recorded in 2014.
