The US Ambassador to Albania is convinced that the justice reform has already given its results. Speaking at the 110th anniversary if the Supreme Court, Yuri Kim encouraged said court to fill its vacancies as soon as possible, while emphasizing that the Albanian people deserve justice delivered on time.
“The opponents of the justice reform would want it to fail. They want to be able to rely on impunity. But this shows that the justice reform is functioning. It’s on the Albanian leaders to ensure it, but we will support you. The basis of the reform is the separation of the judiciary from politics, this should not continue,” said the ambassador.
Speaking of the fact that a new ambassador will soon come to Albania, Kim says that the US will not change its stance towards the reform.
“The US remains committed to supporting Albania. Three years have gone by and it’s a fact that after three years, it’s time for a new ambassador. The reform, however, will not change, even though ambassadors change. I hope you understand that when the US talks about justice, we do it as a sincere friend. No one is above the law,” concluded the diplomat.
Speaking at the same event, Albanian President Bajram Begaj said that the goal of the justice reform is a reliable, independent justice, where no one goes unpunished.
“The reform has not been easy, because its challenges have also created delays. As a president, as a citizen of this country, I demand that access to justice be guaranteed. Relevant authorities should work on the implementation of the new judicial map,” said Begaj.
