The European Parliament approved two annual resolutions for Kosovo and Serbia. The MEPs ask both countries “to be constructive in the dialogue for normalization of relations and that this normalization should also include mutual recognition.”
452 MEPs voted for Kosovo’s report, 87 were against and 76 abstained.
The report repeats the invitation to the five non-recognizing countries (Spain, Greece, Romania, Cyprus and Slovakia) to finally do so for Kosovo. The report also welcomes Kosovo’s application for EU membership.
Standing rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, who wrote the report, expressed her joy regarding the finalization of the visa liberalization process.
“Ever since 2019 as I was writing reports on Kosovo, I hoped free movement would be guaranteed. Now I can finally say that Europe opened its doors to Kosovo as well,” she declared during the debate.
These are the last annual reports for Kosovo and Serbia from the current composition of the parliament, since elections will be held at the end of May or the beginning of June 2024.
The texts of the reports had been previously approved by the Committee of Foreign Affairs.
