The EU Special Representative for the Pristina-Belgrade Dialogue Miroslav Lajčák, said he had an “important discussion” with Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
“I came to Pristina today to discuss with PM Kurti and vice PM Bislimi on the way forward in the process towards normalization ahead of the next meeting. It is important to clearly understand the sequence of steps to be taken, so we had an important discussion on all aspects. I’ll have the same discussions tomorrow in Belgrade,” Lajčák told journalists after the meeting.
The European mediator also said he will visit the north of Kosovo, as he wants to closely observe the situation there.
“I truly hope there is a political solution that will allow us all to focus on the normalization and the implementation of the agreement,” Lajčák said.
Asked about the Croatian model for the Association, which the Government of Kosovo insists on, Lajčák said that what is acceptable to the European Union is something “that is based on European norms and values, according to existing models”.
“We have said it since the start. I won’t comment more on that. I think I’m very clear,” said the representative.
Lajčák announced he will be meeting with the chief negotiators of both countries in the dialogue, on Monday.
The latest round of high-level negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia was held on May 2nd, in Brussel. Parties agreed on a Declaration for the Forcibly Missing Persons from the last war in Kosovo, but failed to agree on the draft statute of the Association of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo. PM Kurti even dismissed the Managing Team that presented the draft, opening a new round of debates on the association.
