“Together We Win” coalition candidate for Tirana, Belind Këlliçi spoke after his loss in the local elections.
He said that the result does not reflect the citizen’s will, but is influenced by the state machinery of the SP’s electoral campaign.
Këlliçi added that the result of the May 14th race was a product of using state assets to pressure the citizens and the administration.
“We are working every hour to prove every violation made and to prepare a full document. The result does not correspond to what the citizens think of the current mayor and this is easily verifiable in each corner of Tirana,” declared Këlliçi.
However, he admitted the opposition’s need to reflect after the result.
“I participated in these elections under unusual conditions, as every opposition candidate. I was fully aware that I was part of the most unequal race of these 33 years and I still chose to face citizens with a concrete and detailed program, that focused on the needs of the citizens and that offered real solutions to daily concerns. And it still wasn’t enough. The voters did not react so that they could beat the opponent’s mechanism, which is based on pressure, bribes, intimidation, corruption and propaganda. Our society apparently needs something different and expects more from us. We must all reflect on what happened and of course, I should be the first to do so. But this doesn’t mean we will back down. On the contrary, we must all do more. But first, we must look inside ourselves to understand and analyze what the public, opinion, residents and voters want from us,” Këlliçi further stated.
