Former prime minister Sali Berisha held another conference this Wednesday, reiterating he will not recognize the local elections result.

Berisha called the process incriminated, with votes being bought for sums varying from 300 to 500 euros.

He emphasized that an indicator of the electoral fraud was the record devaluation of the euro during the campaign and its immediate increase after the elections.

“Over 20 thousand citizens were added to the list of economic help in the entire country and 10 thousand others were paid as temporary employees without a contract.

The economic help fund and payments increased by 900 million lek compared to last year. 850 thousand citizens, eligible to vote, benefited from these payments, with the sole purpose of buying their votes.

Besides funds, other anti-legal forms were used to buy the citizens’ votes, such as subsidies, procurements and tenders… all contrary to the Electoral Code.

4 billion Albanian lek were tendered for the construction of earthquake-proof houses. Hundreds of cases of investment in electoral gravel were found, culminating in Tirana.

This is only the tip of the iceberg of what was distributed in the black market, where a vote was bought from 300 to 500 euros.

What is the total amount used to buy the votes of Albanians? It’s hard to find, and maybe will never be disclosed.

What is known is that the euro reached low levels of exchange against the lek. Competent sources tell us that such a fall can only be provoked by throwing hundreds of millions of euros for exchange, in a short time. The euro’s increase just after the election ended, dismisses the claim that the fall was related to the tourist season.

So, these elections were bought and hundreds of millions of euros from Albanian taxes were used to buy them.

Meanwhile, the opposition has not paid a penny out of pocket. These elections are bought because narco-euros became the main dictates of the result,” argued Berisha.
