The senior adviser of the US Department of State, Derek Chollet, has said that it is necessary to avoid provocations and conflicts between Kosovo and Serbia.

Those statements were made during a conversation through a phone call, with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.

According to the Serbian Presidency, the senior American official has said that it is important for Kosovo and Serbia to continue working on the normalization of relations and has given the support of the USA for the dialogue process, which is mediated by the European Union.

“President Vučić stressed that Serbia continues to be committed to the policy of peace and cooperation in the region”, it is stated in the announcement of the Serbian Presidency.

Vučić and Chollet also talked about cooperation in economy and trade between Washington and Belgrade.

Kosovo and Serbia continue holding a dialogue since 2011, a process aimed at the complete normalization of relations.

In February, in Brussels, Kosovo and Serbia reached the Basic Agreement towards the normalization of relations, while a month later in Ohrid, they reached the Annex for the implementation of this agreement.
