April inflation higher than forecast for Albania, foods cost more

According to data from Eurostat, inflation in Albania during April 2023 reached 5%, higher than the figure of 4.6% presented by national institutions.

Eurostat data found that the most significant price increase over the month was 9.4% in the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector, followed by furniture and home appliances with 6.7%, clothing and shoes, entertainment and culture, and miscellaneous goods and services each at 4%.

Other categories of goods witnessed a smaller increase, for example alcohol and tobacco and cars and restaurants with 3.3%, health with 2.5%, rent and utilities with 2.4% and communications with 1.1%.

As for decreases, transport fell by 3.9%.

In April 2023, inflation at the European level experienced the highest increase in Hungary with over 24%, in Latvia with 15% and in the Czech Republic with around 14%.

Eurostat’s consumer price index is designed to measure the change in the average level of prices paid for goods and services by private households, collectives, and tourism spending in Albania. They are used to measure consumer inflation and the change in the average price of a fixed basket of consumer goods.
