The General Prosecutor’s Office in Albania registered 31 criminal reports for electoral crimes during the electoral campaign and after the elections until May 18th.
For three of the reports, the prosecutors have decided not to start investigations, since they did not establish that it was a violation. Prosecutors are still gathering evidence for the other 28 cases.
Criminal reports are related to vote buying, family voting, damage to electoral materials and even the use of the administration in the electoral campaign.
Elbasan is the district with the most reports, where 5 lawsuits regarding the elections were registered. In Vlora and Berat, 4 cases per district are under investigation. In Durrës, Kukës and Gjirokastër, three cases per district are being investigated.
Two elections investigation files were filed in Fier, Dibër and Tirana each. While Korça, Shkodra and Tirana each have a criminal report.
In relation to these charges, six people were arrested: two in Saranda, two in Vlora and two in Tirana.
“Arrest in prison” has been set as a security measure, only for one person by the Prosecutor’s Office of Vlora.
Three criminal proceedings, two from the Prosecutor’s Office in Berat and one in Vlora have been transferred to the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime for investigative competence.
