The Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption has given the security measure “Prison arrest” for Fredi Beleri.

Judge Atalanta Zeqiri, in the decision made in the Counseling Chamber, decided to accept the request of the Special Prosecution, for Fredi Beleri to be tried with prison for the charge of vote buying.

At the end of the hearing, Beleri’s lawyer described the decision as unfair, since according to him Beleri had no contact with the police infiltrator.

Beleri will continue to be held in the detention facilities in Tirana, while it is not yet known if he will be able to take the mandate as the elected mayor of Himara.

Beleri, together with the member of his electoral staff, Pandeli Kokaveshi, who was not present at the session as he is in the hospital due to his health, is accused of buying and selling votes.

In the arrest warrant issued against Beleri, it is noted that he was arrested in the act of buying votes, while in the prosecutor’s file it is stated that the buying of votes was carried out by Kokaveshi in the toilet of a bar at noon and not at the time of his arrest. According to the police, the votes were bought from police infiltrators.
