For 25 years, Ilir Kanani lived and worked in Germany. An illness that appeared a while ago changed the course of his life. He returned to his hometown Berat to be cured. After many consultations and diagnosis of the disease, he learned that quail eggs had a curative effect on him.

The treatment not only cured him, but also opened him up to a business opportunity. Ilir started breeding Japanese quails.

“I had some health problems and I heard somewhere that quail eggs are curative. They cured all my problems; the result was absolutely special. I started with 100 birds and now I have around 2,000 birds,” Ilir tells Euronews Albania.

After his business was on track, came the first requests for the sale of eggs and not only.

“People come asking me for eggs, but I get more requests for the quails themselves. Restaurants want them cut and cleaned.”

Ilir says that he raised every bird at his own expense and states he has never received any help from the state.

“Until now I haven’t had any support, everything is done by me and I’m thinking of expanding if they support me with a subsidy or any other kind of help. I have 2,000 birds, but I want to have 20 thousand.”

Family members also take care of this business, which is located in the Uznova neighborhood of Berat.
