In January-March period, Albania produced 2.8 terawatts of electricity.
The amount is about 40% higher than at the beginning of 2022, which has brought the country management of the situation with trade and supply to the population.
People have used less energy. Businesses and families consumed 1.6 terawatts, unlike last year when they used 1.78. High prices, warm weather, but also the awareness not to waste energy, have influenced the reduction of consumption.
On the other hand, Electricity Corporation of Albania has expanded the income in the cash register, as it has sold more energy than it has bought. Even last year this ratio was reversed, creating losses in the sector.
According to the production structure, the public Hydropower plants in Drin carry 58% of the quantity. The rest, 41.5% is produced by concessionary private HPPs and 0.5% by solar panels.
The balance for the first 3 months has been published by the Institute of Statistics, which reveals that the level of losses and thefts of electricity has been reduced this year, which indicates the start of a good year in the sector.
