American Senator Chris Murphy reacted after today’s developments in the north of the country.

He stated that on Monday, during the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti did not mention the plan to enter the municipal buildings, while he emphasized that he must put an end to “this provocation immediately”.

“I just had a phone conversation with US senior adviser Derek Chollet about the problematic development. In my meeting on Monday in Pristina with Prime Minister Kurti, he did not mention a plan for access to municipal buildings. As a friend of Kosovo, I was completely caught by surprise and must put an end to this provocation immediately,” Murphy wrote on Twitter.

Also, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has reacted saying that he strongly condemns the actions of the Government of Kosovo, which, according to him, are escalating tensions in the north and increasing instability”.

“We call on Prime Minister [of Kosovo] Albin Kurti to immediately stop these violent measures and refocus on the dialogue facilitated by the European Union,” Blinken wrote on Twitter.

Five policemen were injured and four vehicles were damaged by incidents in the north of Kosovo. This is what the Kosovo Police announced, stressing that one of the cars was burnt. In order to prevent the mayors from entering the municipal facilities, some citizens have gathered in front of the municipal buildings in the north of the country. In addition to the engaged persons and their vehicles located near and near municipal facilities, alarms were also issued in the northern municipalities, which are used by criminal structures for mobilization and gatherings, writes KosovaPress.

Mayor of Zveçan, mayor of Leposaviq and mayor of Zubin Potok, who emerged from the April 23 elections, were sworn in on Thursday (May 25). None of them was sworn in the facility of the respective municipality, except for the mayor of the north of Mitrovica.

Elections in the north have been boycotted by the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, Serb List, with the support of official Belgrade.

The previous chairmen from this party resigned in November of last year. They have left the institutions as a sign of dissatisfaction with the decision of the Government of Kosovo, which has obliged citizens to return their license plates from illegal ones to those of the Republic of Kosovo.
