Cardiac problems and strokes are the main cause of death for Albanians.

Included in the group of “Circulatory System” diseases, they account for 54.5% of deaths in 2022.

According to INSTAT data, “Chronic heart diseases” are the cause of 42.2% of deaths, followed by “Brain vessel diseases” with 22.5% and “Ischemic heart diseases” with 22.3% of fatalities.

After the heart and the brain, experts say that deaths from unspecified, natural causes or from old age account for 20.3% of the total number of deaths in the country. What is noticed is that in the age group over 70 years old, 82.3% of deaths have the main cause “Death from old age”.

Tumors, even though they have decreased, continue to be among the main causes of fatalities in our country. 3232 people during the year 2022 lost their lives as a result of tumors, thus accounting for 13.5% of the total deaths.

According to INSTAT, 97% of deaths in our country are due to diseases, 2% from accidents, 0.2% from murders and 0.8% from suicides.
