The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell called the situation in north Kosovo “dangerous and unsustainable”.
These declarations followed his meeting with Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Bratislava, in the sidelines of the GLOBSEC forum.
“We need urgent de-escalation and a solution through the Dialogue to return to our work on implementing the Agreement reached,” tweeted Borrell, referring to the deal between Kosovo and Serbia towards the normalization of relations.
It was agreed in Brussel this February, with its Annex agreed upon in March in an Ohrid meeting between parties.

Meanwhile, back in Kosovo, one of the opposition parties, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo is seeking a vote of no confidence for Kurti’s government, following the escalated situation in the north and the US sanctions against Kosovo.
The head of the Parliamentary Group of the party Besnik Tahiri said that Kurti is rapidly losing sovereignty in the north, with his current approach.
According to him, the US sanctions have fundamentally hit the functioning base of the country and a vote of no confidence would show Kurti that the path he is walking leads nowhere.
Tahiri said that this motion would not harm Kurti or be used for the opposition’s political benefits, calling the elections in the four northern municipalities “an experiment that did not help the country or the integration of the north”.
