NATO has also put a reserve battalion on high alert for deployment in Kosovo “in case of need”, the cause of tensions in the north of the country. This was announced during the visit of the commander of the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples, Admiral Stuart Munsch, to KFOR.
The news comes just a day after NATO decided to deploy additional forces after 30 soldiers from its peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, were injured during clashes with Serbian protesters in Zveçan.
“Their discussions [of Admiral Munsch and KFOR commander, Major General Angelo Michele Ristuccia] included the deployment of 700 additional troops from the reserve battalion called to Kosovo by NATO to normalize the situation and ensure security, as well as the possible deployment of another reserve battalion that has been placed on high alert, in case additional troops are needed,” NATO’s Joint Forces Command in Naples tweeted.
