Albanian arrested in Greece, suspected of being head of drug cartel

An Albanian was arrested in Greece after being followed for a period of several months by the police.

The 52-year-old is believed to be the “head” of a large drug cartel and was wanted internationally at the time he was captured.

Albanian was involved in drug trafficking and the distribution of large sums of money, while the business was mainly concentrated in Netherlands.

As announced by Ministry of Finance, the criminal organization trafficked on a daily basis, through an “underground” banking system with the use of coded communications, large sums of money and it is estimated that for a period of about 10 months, the amount trafficked was 250 million euros.

In the search carried out at the suspect’s residence, sums of money were found and seized in banknotes from various countries, including Euros, US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Swiss Francs, Turkish Liras, United Arab Emirates Dirhams and Rands of South Africa.

Authorities also confiscated mobile phones, including a mobile phone used for encrypted calls through special apps, a tablet, a digital disk and SIM cards.
