The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Global Coalition for the destruction of ISIS (D-ISIS), which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the co-chairmanship of the US Department of State, represented by Antony Blinken and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by Prince Faisal bin Farhan Alsaud.
In her intervention, Minister Xhaçka highlighted the role, engagement and pro-active contribution of Albania, as well as the priority that Albania has given to the fight against international terrorism, placing it as one of the priority areas of our commitment as a non-permanent member country of the UN Security Council.
“The fight against violent extremism and terrorism has been one of the priorities of our work in the Security Council. During our tenure so far, we have worked closely with friends and allies to represent and advance our common interests and objectives in the fight against terrorism. Albania is committed to this Coalition, wherever the threat of terrorism appears, and we will work closely with all allies and partners for as long as necessary,” said the Albanian chief diplomat.
Being one of the first countries, part of the joint international political action within the Global Coalition against ISIS, Albania once again reaffirmed its position, alongside partner countries in the Coalition, for the continuation of the war against ISIS, and any manifestation of terrorism.
In the joint Declaration approved at the meeting, the partners in the Coalition are called to be vigilant and work together against any form of terrorist threat, in any region of the world.
The meeting of the foreign ministers of the participating countries of the Global Coalition of the war against ISIS constitutes an important and contributing event in the orientation and coordination of global efforts for a lasting victory against international terrorism.
