Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić said she is ready to resign.
“I am ready, and consider that you may have my resignation,” she said during a public speech alongside President Aleksandar Vučić.
Brnabić stated she believes holding parliamentary elections by the end of the year is a solution to the crisis and added that the opposition did not respond to Vučić’s invitation for a meeting.
In recent months, several protests have been held in Serbia by a dissatisfied part of the opposition, who are unhappy with the government’s response to the two mass shootings in May that resulted in the deaths of 18 people.
Brnabić stated that she has carried out her duties in the best possible manner and that the results of her government are undeniable.
“Not everything was perfect, but we did our best, and I think we have results that every citizen, if sincere, can be proud of,” she said.
President Vučić stated that he is certain there will be early parliamentary elections, and the only question is when they will be held.
Vučić said there will not be a transitional government and once again, invited the opposition to engage in dialogue.
“I believe we will find interlocutors. If that does not happen, we will go to elections, but the government will not be formed on the streets, and there will be no transitional government,” said Vučić.
Ana Brnabić took office as the new Serbian Prime Minister in mid-2022.
When announcing her appointment as head of the government, Vučić stated that Brnabić would not stay in this position for a full term, but there would be changes during 2024.
