Albanian Parliament approves new Central Electoral Commission

The Albanian Parliament has voted with 106 votes in favour of Ilirjan Celibashi as the new director of the formerly called Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The institution will be renamed to State Electoral Commission.

Celibashi is not unknown to the public. He has headed CEC during 2001-2006.

Also, the Assembly voted in favour of Lealbe Pelinku as deputy director of the State Electoral Commission.

In addition, the Albanian parliament approved the 5-member list of the Electoral Regulatory Commission

  • Ilirjana Nano
  • Dritan Çaka
  • Arens Çela
  • Helga Vukaj

With 105 votes in favour, the parliament also chose the members of the Claims and Sanctions Commission:

  • Ilirjan Rusmali
  • Elvin Lako
  • Koli Bele
  • Elvis Çefa
  • Ledio Braho

The State Electoral Commission has now 12 members categorized in three levels. The new body will be responsible for the 2021 parliamentary elections.
