For the fifth consecutive year, the Tirana Triathlon took place in the park of Lake Farka, attracting participants not only from Albania but also from many other countries, especially from the Balkan region.
The ceremony for awarding the winners of the three disciplines was attended by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
“Sports have taught us that in a neighborhood where we live together, we fall together and rise together. If we understand that we cannot choose our neighbors, but we are destined to live together, to cooperate, to thrive together, sports are the best means to diplomacy. Therefore, let’s remember that sports unite us. It doesn’t matter if we are from Kosovo, Serbia, Albania, Montenegro, or Bulgaria; we are part of one community. Just as we fall together, we also rise together and cooperate with each other,” said Veliaj.
The mayor also highlighted the investments made by the municipality, specifically mentioning the new Farka Park.
“Farka has now become an extraordinary destination. We started here with Kostas Bakoyannis, the Mayor of Athens, when we opened Helen Park. Many people thought it was something small, no one could imagine that shortly after we would have a second park in the capital, after Tirana Lake,” said Veliaj.
While urging parents to engage their children in sports, Veliaj revealed that major sports events, especially in this year when Tirana is the European City of Sport, will not end here.
The Tirana Marathon is also scheduled to take place in October.
