Albania and Kosovo to hold ninth intergovernmental meeting in Gjakova

June 14th will bring together the governments of Albania and Kosovo.

This will be the first meeting between Prime Ministers Albin Kurti and Edi Rama after the latter’s proposal of a draft for the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities in Kosovo and after Kurti’s clear message that the proposal is not welcome.

The two governments will sign some new agreements, as well as declarations and memorandums as listed below:

  1. Memorandum of Understanding on the Prevention of Violent Extremism and the Fight against Terrorism;
  2. Joint Declaration on Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Security;
  3. Agreement on Cooperation in Facilitating Procedures at Border Inspection Points for Non-Animal Origin Products;
  4. Cooperation Agreement in the Phytosanitary Field;
  5. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Higher Education and Scientific Research (scholarship allocation);
  6. MOU “For the Implementation of the Joint Olympiad in the Albanian Language for 9th Grade in Pre-University Education”;
  7. Agreement on the Exchange of Experiences Regarding Participation in International Student Assessments and Professional Development of Teachers;
  8. Agreement on the Recognition of the Right to Practice the Professions of Lawyer and Mediator in Dispute Resolution;
  9. Additional Protocol to the Cooperation Agreement on the Provision of Health Services;
  10. Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Inspections;
  11. Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Theater;
  12. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment;
  13. Technical Agreement on “Cooperation in the Field of Military Medicine”;
  14. Memorandum of Cooperation regarding “Facilitating Transit Procedures for the Passage of Military Goods for the Purposes and Needs of the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Albania”.

According to the agenda, the meetings will start at 11:00 am, when the delegation of the Albanian Government is also expected to arrive.

The opening of the plenary session of the joint meeting between the two governments of Kosovo and Albania will take place at 11:30 am at the City Library in Gjakova.

A joint photo is scheduled for 12:40 pm.

At 12:45 pm, the intergovernmental agreements will be signed at the “Hadi Shehu” City Theater.

The joint press conference of Prime Ministers Albin Kurti and Edi Rama will be held at 1:15 pm, also at this theater.

As part of the agenda, homage will be paid at the Memorial of Martyrs in Gjakova at 1:45 pm.

This is the ninth joint meeting of the two governments, where parties have signed 41 bilateral, inter-ministerial and inter-institutional agreements so far.
