Kosovo Government announces ban on cars with Serbian license plates

The Government of Kosovo said that “after the kidnapping of three Kosovo policemen by the Serbian forces”, it has decided to stop vehicles with Serbian license plates from entering the territory of the state.

REL confirmed the news by the spokesperson of the Government, Përparim Kryeziu, who said that after the event that happened on Wednesday on the border line with Serbia, the institutions of Kosovo have decided to increase the level of border controls.

“For security reasons, the institutions have decided to increase the level of border controls. Therefore, as an immediate step, it has been decided to ban the entry of vehicles with Serbian license plates into the Republic of Kosovo, while the analysis of the situation by the security institutions continues. The next actions will be taken based on the recommendations to law enforcement institutions”, said Kryeziu.

According to Kosovo Police, the incident happened at noon on Wednesday, when the police officers were allegedly kidnapped by Serbian forces during a patrol in the place called Tresave/Bare, on the border line in the north of Kosovo.

The place Tresave/Bare is located in the municipality of Leposaviq, within the territory of Kosovo.

In Belgrade, officials said they were arrested by anti-terror units of the Serbian gendarmerie inside the territory of Serbia, in the municipality of Rashka.
