Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke Thursday morning with representatives of the European Union and the QUINT countries.

Vučić wrote on Instagram that he urged them to do everything in their power to prevent Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti from “starting a new war in the Balkans”.

A day earlier, the Serbian President accused Kurti of wanting to “provoke war and conflicts” at all costs.

Vučić met with representatives of the QUINT countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany) as well as the head of the European Union delegation in Serbia.

This is the second meeting between the Serbian President and EU and QUINT representatives within two days. A day earlier, he stated that he would not comment on anything after the meeting he had with them.

“I have decided not to say a word about the meeting with representatives of the QUINT countries and the head of the EU delegation in Serbia. I think it is better for everyone,” Vučić wrote on Instagram.

The meetings were held due to heightened tensions between Kosovo and Serbia in recent days.

On June 13th, the Kosovo Police conducted an operation in North Mitrovica, where they arrested Milun Milenković.

Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Sveçla stated that the arrested person is suspected of being one of the organizers of the events in Zvečan on May 29th.

The next day, three officials of the Kosovo Police were arrested by Serbian forces in the northern part of the country, whom Pristina claims were abducted by Serbian police forces.

These developments are occurring at a time when tensions in northern Kosovo, predominantly populated by Serbs, have escalated.

The tensions began on May 26th when new Albanian mayors of municipalities in the north entered the municipal buildings with the assistance of the Kosovo Police, amidst opposition from local Serbs.

Tensions reached a peak on May 29th when in Zvečan, Serbian protesters clashed with members of the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR. Dozens of people from both sides were injured in the clashes.
