The interim Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović has pledged that Montenegro, as a “friendly country to Serbia and Kosovo”, will be a welcoming host for the next round of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, with the involvement of European and American officials.

In a Twitter update following a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, as part of the Prespa Forum taking place in Ohrid, North Macedonia, Abazović, stated that “promoting peace, stability, and regional cooperation is one of the main objectives of Montenegro’s foreign policy”.

“Our common interest is to find an acceptable solution for all parties in an open conversation,” he wrote.

A day earlier, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated that he will invite representatives from Kosovo and Serbia to an urgent crisis management meeting in Brussel next week.

“Cooperation between the European Union and NATO goes beyond Ukraine. For example, in Kosovo in recent days, we have seen how important this cooperation is, and I want to thank KFOR and the KFOR commander for the work they are doing in northern Kosovo,” said Borrell.

Tensions in northern Kosovo have been high since May 26th when new Albanian mayors entered municipal buildings in the northern region.

Local Serbs have opposed such actions and have been protesting in front of municipal buildings since May 29th.
