Prominent Albanian camera operator, Honored Artist Pëllumb Kallfa, has passed away.
The news was announced this Friday by the National Center of Cinematography, which expressed condolences to his family and also recognized his work and contribution to Albanian cinema.
“The National Center of Cinematography extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and holds deep appreciation for his artistic work and contribution to Albanian cinema.”
Pëllumb Kallfa was a cinematographer for newsreels, documentaries, and artistic films.
He was born in Tirana in 1945, the son of a well-known photographer and one of the first chroniclers of Albanian cinema, Mehmet Kallfa.
He completed his higher education studies at the University of Tirana.
Kallfa started out as an assistant in the film industry and later became involved in shooting scenarios for filmmakers and newsreels.
His first documentary film, “More Meat for the People” (“Më shumë mish për popullin”) was realized in 1971.
In total, he filmed about 25 newsreels and documentaries, including 12 documentaries.
His camera stood out particularly in films such as “Basketball Player No. 10” and “Touristic Albania” in 1972, “By the First Steps and Utilizing Nuclear Radiation” in 1974, and more.
He filmed a total of 22 artistic films, mostly with renowned directors. For his work, he was honored with the title of Honored Artist.
Other films include: “Poppies on the walls” (“Lulëkuqet mbi mure”), “General Gramophone” (“Gjeneral Gramafoni”, and “The Toast of My Wedding” (“Dollia e dasmës sime”), “A Small Delay” (“Një vonesë e vogël”), “A Fairytale from the Past” (“Përrallë nga e kaluara”), “Spring Did Not Come Alone” (“Pranvera s’erdhi vetëm”), “Years of Waiting” (“Vitet e pritjes”) etc.
