Unemployment in Albania is on the rise, particularly among young people.
According to a report from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), in the first three months of 2023, the official unemployment rate in the country is 10.9 percent, showing an increase of 0.7 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
The official unemployment rate for men is 10.6 percent and for women is 11.1 percent.
The highest number of unemployed individuals is observed in the age group of 15-29, where, according to INSTAT, 22.5 percent of them are unemployed, which is 1.8 percent higher than the last three months of 2022.
As for the age group of 30-64, the unemployment rate is 7.8 percent, showing a 0.2 percent increase compared to the previous quarter.
In the first quarter of 2023, the labor force participation rate for the population aged 15-64 is 75.7 percent.
For women, the labor force participation rate is 69.5 percent, while for men, this indicator is 82.2 percent.
For men, the labor force participation rate is 12.7 percentage points higher than for women.
According to experts, employment in the industrial sector has decreased by 2.7 percent during this period of the year, while it has increased by 11 percent in the services sector and by 0.4 percent in the agricultural sector.
