Special units of the Macedonian police and the directorate for protection and rescue have pulled out of the Lepenc river the car with the three dead bodies of the citizens of Kosovo, which had fallen into the river on Saturday after an accident with another vehicle.

The accident happened near Skopje, a few kilometers from the border crossing between the two countries, in Bllacë.

“The police officers of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit have found dead the three people who were being searched in the river after the accident on Saturday on the Skopje-Bllacë road. The BMW vehicle was also found in which the persons, who were already dead, were located”, says the announcement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

There were four people in the car with Kosovo license plates and one of them managed to get out of it, while the others fell into the Lepenc river together with the vehicle.

The person was pulled out of the river and transferred to the “8 Shtatori” hospital in Skopje and is in good health, the Macedonian police announced.

Earlier on June 18, the Macedonian authorities announced that they have arrested the driver of the vehicle with Skopje license plates, who had an accident with the car with Kosovo license plates.

“The internal affairs sector in Skopje is continuing the investigations related to the incident on the Skopje-Bllacë border crossing and by order of the public prosecutor, the driver of the Volkswagen Turan vehicle, with the initials B.B. has been stopped for further investigations”, says the announcement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

At the time of the accident, according to the Macedonian police, there were large flows of the Lepenc river due to torrential rain.

Search and rescue teams from Kosovo also participated in the operation to retrieve the car.

The ambassador of Kosovo in North Macedonia, Florian Qehaja, together with the minister of the interior, Xhelal Sveçla, also came to the scene.
