Albanian citizens living abroad will no longer benefit from the baby bonus, which has been applied since 2019.
The legal change that excludes immigrants from this benefit was put in public consultation for 1 month.
Ministry of Health and Social Protection in the draft law that is expected to be passed for approval has proposed that in Article 9, point 1 of the “Law on social assistance”, to exclude from the benefit of this bonus persons who are not residents of Albania.
It is not known how many immigrants have so far benefited from this bonus, which is worth 40,000 lek for the first child, 80,000 lek for the second child and 120,000 lek for the third child.
Since January 2019, when the government program started, more than 170,000 families have benefited from financial assistance for newborn children.
