Albanian families spend more on food than families living in another European country.
By comparing income per capita, gross domestic product, and market prices, grocery expenses in the country reach 31% compared to the EU average of 6.6%.
This percentage is evidence of a high poverty level that surpasses even the regional countries.
For bread and grains, Albanian families spend 4.3% of the GDP, compared to the European average of 1.2%.
Additionally, 6% of the annual income circulating in the economy is spent on meat.
The same level of expenditure applies to beverages, which account for 5.1% of the national production in Albania, compared to 1% in Europe.
According to Eurostat, the nominal spending per capita for food in 2022 was 2,000 euros, up from 1,700 euros in 2021, with a narrow difference compared to the European average of 2,300 euros.
