Netherlands remains the largest foreign investor in Albania. According to data from the Bank of Albania, Dutch investments in the first three months of 2023 accounted for 20% of the total flow with about 62 million euros of foreign direct investments.
Companies with Dutch shareholders have doubled their investments compared to last year. At the end of the first three months of the year, these companies have produced a profit of 1.94 billion euros.
According to experts, one reason why the Netherlands leads the ranking of foreign investors is the fact that it contains one of the most lenient jurisdictions from a tax point of view.
Many offshore companies are registered in the Netherlands. Companies that are registered in the jurisdiction of one country but carry out their activities in another country. These companies control international investments of various business groups.
Another reason why these companies are preferred is the fact that the legislation guarantees a high degree of confidentiality regarding the ownership of the real beneficiaries of these contracts.
Many names mentioned in the Albanian market, who have benefited from concession contracts in Albania, are registered in the Netherlands.
The second largest investor for the first three months of the year was Italy with 43 million euros of investments, an increase of 43% compared to last year. The stock of Italian companies has generated 1.25 billion euros.
Turkey ranks third with 35 million euros of investments, increasing by 9.4%.
French investments, with a value of 47 million euros, as well as Austrian investments with 27 million euros, 29% more than last year, are also increasing.
German investments are declining, which in 2022 were the third largest after the Netherlands and Italy. They have decreased significantly by 77%, producing 9 million euros.
